FAQ: what are the SophosFreeTalk ranks?

[ Edited ]

We recognise that visitors to the SophosFreeTalk community will have many different interests and reasons for coming. Online communities often reward visitors who post lots of answers to other users’ questions. But it seems unfair to reward only users who do that. What about visitors who initiate discussions by starting threads? What about visitors who help others find content by regularly tagging the posts they read? What about visitors who keep interest in the community alive simply by logging on and reading?

We’ve set up a ranking system that recognises all these behaviours. As you engage more frequently with SophosFreeTalk, you’ll be granted higher and higher ranks. The rank you receive will reflect your own kind of engagement, as follows:

Visitors and members (users who register, then visit and re-visit):

  1. New Member
  2. Occasional Visitor
  3. Visitor
  4. Frequent Visitor
  5. Regular Visitor
  6. Member
  7. Established Member
  8. Senior Member

Collectors (users who tag content):

  1. Occasional Collector
  2. Collector
  3. Frequent Collector
  4. Regular Collector
  5. Super Collector

Advisors (users who answer threads):

  1. Occasional Advisor
  2. Advisor
  3. Frequent Advisor
  4. Regular Advisor
  5. Super Advisor

Contributors (users who create threads):

  1. Valued Contributor
  2. Trusted Contributor
  3. Respected Contributor
  4. Esteemed Contributor
  5. Honoured Contributor

It is not hard to achieve the lower ranks. As you might expect, it gets harder to achieve promotion to some of those higher ranks. Length of service and frequency of visits helps with promotion. Posting Accepted Solutions to threads started by others goes a long way.

Now is as good a time to start as any!
