What is the Mobile tools help forum?

[ Edited ]

If you have downloaded the Sophos Security Monitor for iPhone app, you'll already know from your licensing information that the SophosFreeTalk community is your technical support channel. The forums you'll find here support users in four ways:

  1. The Mobile tools help forum contains information likely to be of use to at least some users of the free app. Each post has also been seeded with keywords to help you find them with the SophosFreeTalk search engine.
  2. It also contains some posts that act as entry points into the tool's Online Help. These are the posts whose titles start with "Help".
  3. The Sophos Security Monitor for iPhone forum contains the questions and answers that you and the other SophosFreeTalk community members can post. Peer-to-peer support can be a highly effective way of flagging up problems and issues, and gathering responses from the people who know best - your fellow users.
  4. Among the SophosFreeTalk community, there are Sophos employees. You can spot them from the S-for-Sophos icon next to their user name. Many of them sign in, monitor the discussions and help out in their own time, out of personal interest, and out of a concern that users get the best possible experience of using the Sophos free tools.

We're confident that SophosFreeTalk, its members and this help forum will provide all the assistance that you will need.  If you contact the traditional Sophos Technical Support channels for assistance with the Sophos Security Monitor for iPhone app, you will be directed back to this forum.

Thanks.

Great. As I see just now, it's probably not a good idea to switch to the forum's Full view though. More later .. Christian

Re: What is the Mobile tools help forum?

I've promised to follow up on this. Well, first of all I use the app on an iPad (gen1) so your experience may be different. * There seems to be a minor bug (at least on the iPad): If you start the app in portrait mode (which is the default) the icon tiles on the bottom are invisible (although working). Shortly changing the orientation makes them appear * The icon bar and the "back" arrow-button seem very "trigger happy" - if you happen to "finger" it while swiping you are switched to another section. This is contrary to the usual experience of gestures Naked Security * Naked Security displays the only the 10 newest articles. Good enough most of the time - but apart from the rare occasions of more than a handful posts a day you might have taken a few days off. I have not yet found a way to call up a list of older posts * "Pulling up" does not extend the list as I have expected. Instead pulling down ("refresh") makes the 10 entries appear a second time - quite confusing * I've already made a cryptic remark on "Full view" - it's an internal browser and while the size of the font plays to my presbyopia it makes reading very arduous due to the necessary additional right/left scrolling. The same is true for external links opened from Naked Security: Contrary to expectation (and other apps) the do not open a Safari tab but display inside the Sophos app with the ridiculously large font. BTW - changing the font size does not seem to work even for the blog. * Overall, accessing the blog through the app is more than satisfactory Vulnerabilities * About two months' worth are listed, again it seems not to be possible to access okder entries * Very useful information, ideally the references could be links Media * Accessing older videos/podcasts fails similar to accessing older posts or vulnerabilities, so this is probably a general issue in the app * The rightmost part of an entry in the list (where the > is displayed) does not behave as expected. Instead of displaying "more" entry details it just flickers the entry but does nothing else. This is less noticeable in landscape mode (and perhaps not at all on a device with a smaller display) Labs * Very good overview. What's missing is the ability to look up a threat's analysis (or description) from the app Lookup * It's not clear what the lookup does - that it returns a site's or IP's reputation. Without changes to the app the backend has been improved as initially it was in general not possible to copy/paste an arbitrary URL - now it is. * Usability could be improved. While copy/paste is probably the preferred way to enter an URL (BTW: the prompt text in the input field reads either URI [capital i] or URl [lowercase L] whereas the server's response says URL) you might occasionally want to type one in. The "chars-only" keyboard is acceptable (although not the best choice) but that you hqve to retype an entry instead of being able to edit it is slightly annoying - especially if you inadvertently hit "Done" instead of "Go". Forum * There's another minor bug in the display: In landscape mode the lists of forums and topics have the header and in case of forums the first few entries too scrolled off. While you can see them by dragging the list down you can't click them. Workaround is to rotate the display * Only SophosFreeTalk is available in the app - why? The app provides easy access to AV- and security-related information provided by Sophos. For business and home use alike I'd like to have the threat analyses available (I'm aware that this requires more than a little bit of work on the back-end). There are some minor display issues and a HD version would be nice. Christian

Re: What is the Mobile tools help forum?

Hello Tina,

which colors - and where?

And how do I scan my iPhone 3GS

iPhone runs iOS and there aren't any scanners for iOS due to its architecture (that's not to say it is invulnerable, but apps are not permitted to access other apps or their data and therefore a scanner would be moot as it could only scan itself).
