Hi there!
I have Sophos Anti Virus 8 running for about 2 weeks, and I regognize done strange thing: From time to time the background scan process is not started after booting my Mac. When this happens I get an error message that tells me that ant ivirus has not been started. This happens a few minutes after login.
I can avoid this by waiting for about one minute at the login screen until I really log in, but this is crap. Anyone else with this problem, and maybe someone with a solution?
Regards,
Marcus

I believe that issue was fixed with the 8.0.2 update; however, the feedback regarding a method to avoid it will help the product team track down the problem if it's something different. What OS and Mac are you using?

I tried installing Sophos on our two iMacs two days ago. Upon logging back on to each the next day, Sophos anti-virus was not running on either machine. (Version 8.0.2) It did not show on the Activity Console either, and I was unable to get it to run. Tried logging off and logging back on again. No error messages, just no Sophos process and no Sophos shield in the menu bar. So I uninstalled on the first iMac, since a non-running antivirus program seems of little use. When I logged back onto the second iMac to uninstall, the Sophos shield appeared this time, but I uninstalled anyhow.
Running latest OS X Lion release on both.

Thank you! Hopefully this is enough for the product team to test the issue.
Do you have any other non-standard software that also runs during the login process?

For what it's worth, I've been seeing the same sort of thing. I'm wondering if it was something that went afoul when updating from 7.x to 8.x.
I tried checking the version in the About box, and the Sophos UI Server process hung. I'm attempting a deinstall & clean reinstall just to see if that makes any difference.
I'm running 10.4.11 on an ancient PowerMac G4 Sawtooth, by the way. (And thank you for supporting that old hardware!!!)

My other LaunchDaemons are for Apple's remote repair tool, Carbon Copy Cloner, VMWare Fusion, and Microsoft Office Licensing Helper. That's it. No LaunchAgents. And the other iMac doesn't have Carbon Copy Cloner or VMWare Fusion.

Hi!
I do not know what you call "non standard software", but I also have installed the following software that will be started at launch (before login, not the startup items in my user settings):
VMWare Fusion 4.0.2
Fuse for OSX 2.3.9
Candelair remote driver 1.19.2
EyeTV 3.5.4
This morning I had to reboot my Mac three times until the Anti Virus process was started.

Have you tried pulling down the Sophos menu and selecting Update Now? That seems to get things going for me without rebooting.

This actually looks very similar to the "reboot during an update" issue described on the boards. The fix for that is to do what UltraJoe suggested, and select Update Now from the Sophos menu inside the app itself.
Does this fix anyone's problem?
