Incomplete Scans

I just installed the free mac anti virus program and when I scan all files it goes through the process then stops, saying no threar found and the files haven't been scanned.  How do I do a complete scan?

Re: Incomplete Scans

If you want to scan everything, you'll have to authenticate as administrator (to scan non-user files) and enable archive scanning (to scan archived files).

Re: Incomplete Scans

I'm having the same problem too. I just installed Sophos 8.0.2C on OS X 10.4.11. But no matter how many times I do a scan, the scans window indicates "this scan has never been completed" for local drives. I don't get any error messages; the scanner just stops before completing with zero threats.

As per Andrew's suggestions, I've tried enabling archive scanning, but it doesn't help. And I can't find what preference setting to authenticate as admin to scan non-user files.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Incomplete Scans

I also have run into this same problem.. local scan..runs for about 10000 files more or less and then it stops with no error message, it has to do with Root I think, Admin user seems to not be enough to get past it so.. on 10.4.11 go into your utilities folder. open net info manager, then in the drop down menu select enable root user, im still doing a scan but before it would quit after about 10000 files or so..depending when it ran into something needing root privileges, may or may not work for you guys but so far for me its far past the stopping point where it usually stopped.... still going strong at about 370,000 files left from the 457,000. if you dont see another post from me then everything went fine as far as the complete scan goes. Oh..and if your web browsers have been running really slow..try disabling Java from within the app itself.

Re: Incomplete Scans

I am having similar problems but not only is the Scan Local Folders stalling but so also is the Clean Up threat. I am beginning to wonder how useful the application is.

Re: Incomplete Scans

An update on my situation:

I got a complete scan yesterday. 1 threat detected, JavaHeL-P, and cleansed. I tried a scan today, but it stopped short of completion. Then I ran it again and got a finished scan, no threats. I don't know why it works some of the time but not all the time.

Re: Incomplete Scans

Just downloaded Sophos for my MAC OS 10.4.11 and it also gets hung up with about 440,000 files left unscanned when I manually scanned my hard drive. Barber pole status just keeps running forever. If AGILE is a Sophos employee, then I would appreciate an expansion of your instructions above regarding this comment:

If you want to scan everything, you'll have to authenticate as administrator (to scan non-user files) and enable archive scanning (to scan archived files).

Any insight would be gratly appreciated
