Same thing is happening to me...no shield in the menu bar. I've been using Sophos for a while now with no problems. Updated to the latest 8.0.1c and had the shield right after the update, but then it was gone after a reboot and hasn't come back. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled, and got the same results...shield right after install completed, but then it was gone after reboot. I can go into Applications and open Sophos from there. Clicked on "Sophos Anti-Virus" in the menu bar and then on "Show Status in Menu Bar", but still no shield. I've gone into Preferences and "Enable Live Protection" is selected, and it also says that the on-access scanner is on...so I'm *guessing* it's working but just not showing the shield for some reason.
I've also had the shield disappear on me too, I've tried all the steps listed, and in the end just rebooted my mac again and the shield came back, but I've had the disappearing shield happen on 2 seperate macs, it seems a bit 50/50 whether the shield icon appears after the reboot, whether that means the AV isn't working if the shield isn't there I dont actually know.
I get the shield on my Mac Book but it is white, not black (as the literature states). However, on my IMAC I do NOT get the shield at all. Does this mean that I must manually run scans periodically or do I have the 'AUTOMATIC' feature as the literature indicates?
