Doing a bit of thinking about the existing feature set in the product and wanted to get some feedback. Today there is a feature that allows you to scan a folder or file from the Finder (right click and select Scan with Sophos Anti-Virus). There isn't any specific configuration for this option, it just uses whatever settings are configure for Scan Local Drives.
Looking for some feedback from users with strong feelings about this feature (scanning from the Finder). Something you use regularly? Would you miss it if we took away this feature? If we keep it, do you want to configure it separately? If you're thinking "meh, could live with it or without it" then no need to reply. If you feel really strongly, let me know about it in this thread.

Hi Bob,
I used to use it regularly, but every once in a while it disappears and I have to re-start it manually
I've recently switched to just running a custom scan using my own contextual applescript because I got tired of the contextual menu vanishing (under SAV 7, haven't had this problem under SAV 8 yet). I guess I could probably make it even speedier by just scripting the terminal app.
Then again, I'm probably not your typical home user.
Any other power users or regular users care to comment?

I have my full scan options set the way I want. I like being able to scan a specific folder or file from Finder. It's a lot faster than creating a custom scan for various locations on the hard drive, etc.
I don't see a need to make this more complicated by having to configure a "one-time" scan, each time.
I just scanned my downloads folder and some separate files and feel safer now. I use a few programs that have you do clean installs and it's a good idea to scan the latest versions before installing them.
To get to the point: I want you to keep this feature, please!

Sophos Anti-Virus (German) is missing a translation: Right-clicking a file or a folder in Finder ("Scan with Sophos Anti-Virus") comes without a German translation. Will there be a fix for this small issue?

I've submitted this request to the team.

@lemarc: Which version are you using? And what OS? That will help me know what to be testing for.
At least for v8, we do attempt to install translations, maybe something has been borked on your system though. You might find this Apple article useful, it contains information about refreshing the text used for services (newer systems use services rather than contextual menu plug-ins for this Finder feature).

The German translation is missing again on Mac OS X 10.7.4 and Sophos Anti-Virus 8.0.4C.

Thanks for your feedback, I've forwarded it to the product team.

Hi Bob,
I would like to add my vote for keeping this feature. I find it very useful indeed and much quicker than opening Sophos AV just to scan a single file or folder, for example. I use right-click scanning much more frequently than manual scanning from the Sophos AV app. I also think it would be a great idea to be able to configure seperate scan scannings for right-click scanning vs. manual / scheduled scans from within the Sophos AV app. By default they could use the same settings, but if needed, customers should be able to modify the settings independently .
One thing I liked in another AV app I used to use - Norton AntiVirus for Mac - was that when you use right-click scanning from the Finder, it actually just scans the selected file/folder in a seperate headless version of the app ("small scanner") that appears, performs the scan and then is dimissed as soon as you respond to the dialog showing the scan results. I think this is more convienient than having the right-click scan launch the main Sophos AV app and then leaving it running after the scan is complete.
I would also like to suggest pinning this discussion to the top of the MacHome AV forum, so that as many people as possible get to see it.
Thanks and kind regards,
Stuart

I agree with what Stuart says.
