Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition

I have the same problem, but clicking on the clock does not work for me.  The error msg says to check my network settings, but for what?

Opening the clock or the preferences-Panel "date & time" does not help at all. I always get the message

"The installer cannot connect to Sophos, although your Mac appears to be connected to the internet. Please check your network settings and click Continue again."

The network-checker says: Internet-connection works properly!

Like "rusty", I'm having the same problem.  I've tried on several occasions now to install the Mac Home Edition and I keep getting the same message:  "The installer cannot connect to Sophos, although your Mac appears to be connected to the internet. Please check your network settings and click Continue again."

I've run and re-run my network diagnostics and all is fine.  I've turned off Airport and gone to a straight LAN connection.  And I've tried clicking on the Date/Time and going back as recommended in other posts .... all for nothing.

I've even tried contacting Sophos directly to ask them about it and my response was simply: "I am sorry but I can not provide you with assistance, you must use the forums ..."  (thanks a lot for the help, guys!)

Is there ANYBODY out there who could possibly help me with this issue?  I keep hearing that Sophos is the software I should be using, so I'm fine to use it ... but I can't very well do that if I can't install it.

I had the same problem even though my connection was fine. I tried clicking on the clock and opening system preferences, but that didn't work either. In the end I quit the installer turned off the wifi for about an hour and tried again. That worked and now sophos is running just fine!

Likewise, kelarmo.  All I had to do was access the Date & Time Prefs, change nothing there, and head back to the installer. All worked fine then.  Recent installation of OSX Lion.  The only other issue I've been having is strange quits of com.apple.security.box since installing Lion.

I tried all the suggestions above.  Nothing worked.  I even tried deleting and downloading the .dmg file, restarting, repariing disk permissions, and logging out all other users.  Nothing.  I did a few things on the clock, including keeping systems preferences open.  I switched from wi-fi to the Ethernet connection to my Linksys router.  Nothing.   i was able to install the program fine yesterday on my other MacBook running 10.6.8 using the same router, ethernet cord and internet connection, but nothing.

Having the same problem as everyone else ...

None of the posted solutions work.  Any one have success with a product other than Sophos, as I don't see them responding to the issue.

Indeed, Sophos seem to be ignoring the issue. Or maybe working behind the scenes to fix it, but not saying so on these forums. In either case, the same result...FAIL.

Lots of folks are obviously having the "The installer cannot connect to Sophos, although your Mac appears to be connected to the internet. Please check your network settings and click Continue again" issue. Seems someone could at least communicate as to whether or not a fix is in the works. If not, I'll move on to another antivirus for mac. If Sophos is working on a fix for this issue, I'll gladly wait and keep an eye on these forums. But providing no word at all is a bad way to deal with users (or potential users).
