The disappearence of SophosUIServer is back again. It was there until after the first auto-update download immediately following log-in this morning.

For those of you whose problem isn't fixed by the permissions fix, you'll have to wait for 8.0.7; there is a bug logged on a separate issue with the same symptoms.

Do you have an idea when this will be available? Thank you

"Am having the same problem: Sophos disappears from menu bar immediately after an auto-update. Put an alias for SophosUIServer on the dock to restart...and disabled Sophos auto-update. Manual updates cause SophosUIServer to drop-out also...IF there is an actual update. If only checking for an update and none is available, SophosUIServer is not affected...only when there IS an update downloaded."
I'm having the same problem. I tried repairing my permissions and uninstalling and reinstalling Sophos just like you said in one of your messages. Sophos STILL crashes itself upon updating itself.
I hope there's an update VERY SOON because Sophos is USELESS NOW.

It's been months since the Mountain Lion DP and weeks since GM status.
Still, we have a program that shows 100% reproducible catastrophic failure on fresh install. An antivirus program that cannot even detect an EICAR file.
For me and the rest of the customer base, let me say that Sophos AV has now reverted to Alpha status, not even Beta quality. It speaks volumes about the dependability of the company producing it.
Sorry mates, I am moving to another AV solution.

I did the disk repair and the remove/re-install but the problem is still there.

I did the same and the problem is back again.

Yesterday I followed the advice to repair permissions, remove and then reinstall SAV for Mac. The icon appeared in the menu bar and survived the day's updates. But this morning I did a manual update (the computer had been asleep overnight, so wanted to be sure SAV was up to date) and the shield disappeared. Like others I've put SophosUIServer in the dock, so can relaunch when necessary. I have come to rely on SAV and find it disappointing that there hasn't been a quicker response by Sophos to issue an update.

I am having the same issue with the vanishing shield icon. I am running Lion 10.8, Sophos version 8.0.6c, Threat Detection Engine 3.34.0, Threat Data 4.80. Have tried the suggested permission repairs and reinstall of Sophos, but the issue still remains.
