Downloaded version 7.3.5c on November 4, 2011, however the release date reads "November 7, 2011!
Have I downloaded something nasty or is this the real thing with a typo?

Neither actually... November 7 is the day it goes to full distribution.  You've just got early access to it.

Just make sure the MD5 checksum matches the one listed on the site.
