Re: Why do I now have TWO Sophos icons in my MacBook Pro menu bar?

Hi Manny,

Can you check to see if you have a "login item" for the Sophos UI Server? Look in the System Preferences, Users & Groups, Login Items. You shouldn't have one when using OS X 10.8 (or 10.7, but you should have one for 10.4-10.6).

If you have one, delete it. Log out, log in again. Should have a single shield.

Re: Why do I now have TWO Sophos icons in my MacBook Pro menu bar?

Hi Bob,

I experience the same as Manny. I am running 10.7.4. There is no Sophos in the login item.

I'll check back to this forum later.

Thanks,

Rudy

Some people have reported that the secondary icon has vanished after another update.  I'd suggest waiting a day and see if things go back to normal.

Hi Rudy,

Do you have more than one user logged into your machine via Fast User Switching? If so can you try having everyone log out then in again?

Re: Why do I now have TWO Sophos icons in my MacBook Pro menu bar?

Hi Bob,

I manually updated then after it successfully checked, one of the icons went away. Now it's ok. I tried several reboots, it stays with one icon. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thank you for best customer service. It tells a lot about your product.

Re: Why do I now have TWO Sophos icons in my MacBook Pro menu bar?

Hello,

I also had this appearance. Now I did it like described:

--> System Preferences, Users & Groups, Login Items.

I delete Sophos and restart.

Now only one Icon appear in the status bar. But I do not have anymore

the Login Item in the User & Groups.

That is ok?

MacBook Pro, late 2011,

OS X 10.8

Newest Sophos version

That is the way to go - the Login item was not needed for a long time (Since Snow Leopard), but upgrading keeps it in Apples' Login list, and so now it  finally bit back!

Re: Why do I now have TWO Sophos icons in my MacBook Pro menu bar?

Bob,

Running 10.8 and newest Sophos with a MacBok Pro and have the same 2 icons  appearing. I tried to delete the login item and can not delete it as the minus sign is greyed out when I try to delete it and I can't get rid of it or the second icon in the Menu Bar. At least there is now only one Sophos UI Server in the Activity Monitor, at least for now. Even if i use the Sophos remove tool it does not remove that file from Login.

Any ideas for removing that from login?
