Hello,
I just downloaded the Sophos Antivirus home edition.
everytime I start the installer and install the AV;
Sophos gives an error (The installer cannot connect to Sophos, although your Mac appears to be connected to the internet. please check your network settings and click Continue again. For more information, please visit the support forum.) in the update section.
I am pretty sure the internet connection is fine.
What is wrong of it?
Thank you!
Chris

Hello freeflywing,
another post mentioned Little Snitch as possible cause (if it isn't please take also a look at the other posts in the thread). Does this help?

Neither can I. I do not have little snitch and am connected to internet. My error says installation failed.
Has anyone got this freeby to work?

I have the same problem, but I also cannot update my MAC OS X software, because the connection times out. The error message says to check my network connections, but I am connected to the Internet and network diagnostics doesn't turn up anything wrong.
I suppose I could start randomly changing my network settings, but that would probably screw up my existing connection.
One other thing, I can't get Safari to access the Internet, but Firefox does.
I'm not seeing the relationship between these issues, but I would be interested if others are having them.

Both Sophos Anti-Virus and Safari use the System proxy settings found in Apple->System Preferences->Network->Advanced->Proxies.
Firefox has its own proxy settings options. My guess is that your System proxy settings are misconfigured.

I had the same problem, but I solved it myself.
Here's the message I got during installation.
"The installer cannot connect to Sophos, although your Mac appears to be connected to the internet. please check your network settings and click Continue again. For more information, please visit the support forum."
I found out this is caused by forbidden connection with sophos server due to Failed authentication, therefore I checked the date and time on my computer to make sure it's not causing this error.
Then I found out the date and time on my computer was set to one year ago.
Once I changed my date and time on my computer to current, everything just worked fine, I got my database updated and the installation was completed without a single problem.
What happens is when you have an outdated dated and time, the authentication could not go through because according to the date and time on your computer, the certificate has expired long ago.
I hope this will help some of you guys whose having the same problem, if this is what caused your problem as well, congratulations!
For those who still could solve their problem, try this page:

This page tells you what to do according to what error.
Good luck to you all!

OK, so I give up? What is the fix? Anyone from Sophos???

Two fixes so far (possibly more in the other threads:
1) make sure your proxy settings are configured correctly
2) make sure your date & time are set correctly
Also, if you haven't tried it, try re-downloading the installer directly from the Sophos website.
These are all solutions that have worked for some people.

I am trying to install Sophos Anti-Virus on my macbook pro and the installer stops and states: "The ;installer cannot connect to Sophos, although your Mac appears to be connected to the internet. Please check your network settings and click Continue again." I saw some posts that stated the date may be wrong on the mac, but I checked the date that is listed on my computer and it is correct. I still get the same screen. I also tried re-downloading and the same problem. Any help. It will not allow me to go any further. Thanks.
